About National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC)

National Thermal Power Corporation or NTPC is not only India's but all off south Asia's largest independent power producing organisation. NTPC is a name given to a number of thermal power plants across India(a total of 22) that work together to provide India a majority of its power supplly.

In the coming years it has grown rapidly, increasing its power producing capabilities at a good rate. Even now as India faces a big power crisis NTPC is the ray of hope that India may lookforward to apart from the nuclear deal with the USA and Russia which probably has a long way to go.

The NTPC was founded in 1975 as a result of the governments effort to improvise the power scene in India. It started its first operation in Singrauli in Uttar Pradesh with a pithead super thermal power project. From then on it has come a long way now operating a total of 22 power plants out of which 15 are coal based and 7 are gas based. Its operations are highly efficient. The management of the plants is done impeccably. This is not what they just say the results of their efficiency are evident. They have only 18.79% of power resources available in India yet they give an output of staggering 28.60%.
Their power producing capability has shown a constant growth right since its inception. The graph shows a linea growth pattern which shows that the organisation is committed to steady performance. The company's power producing capability now stands at 30, 644 MW(as in 2009). The company also has plans to reach a few objectives by 2017.

Total power output of 53000 MW,
10000 MW through gas,
9000 MW through Hydro generation
2000 MW from nuclear
and 1000MW from renewable sources.

The company also has a view to grow glabally and is taking steps toward it.
The company is guided by the able chairman Mr. R.S.Sharma and a body of directors. Two of them is government nominated. The company has been receiving a number of awards for many years now. These awards include environment performance awards, technical performance awards, HR awards, safety awards, corporate governance awards among others. The company in its view to become a global pressence is not just restricted to power generations. It also has a few other services which include power management institutes and research centers, power related consultancy etc. It also takes part in power production in partnership with other firms. As the future progresses, so will India and propelling its progress will be the NTPC.
